GX2 PLAYER GUIDE

Hello GX2 attendees! We've got a little guide for you to help you get around Genesis and some important rules to know about getting to the venue and getting inside the building, security, badge pickup, and food & bev rules.

Also, remember that waves are 90 minutes this year instead of 2 hours, use startgg to find your schedule, don't assume you know it from the wave number!

GETTING TO THE VENUE

The convention center address is 150 W San Carlos St, San Jose

From San Jose Airport:

Unfortunately, during GX2, the light rail will be partially closed between the airport and the convention center. There is a bus replacement for this gap but we recommend getting a ride to/from the airport at this point.

From SFO:

SFO has a BART station attached to it. Take BART 1 stop south to Millbrae. Transfer to Caltrain and take it south to Diridon Station. From there, either walk 3/4 mile to the venue or ride the green line VTA towards Old Ironsides 2 stops to the convention center. Total cost is about $20 and takes a little over 90 minutes.

From OAK:

OAK has a BART connector attached to it. Take the connector, and then take either green or orange line south to Berryessa, then take the Rapid 500 bus to downtown San Jose and walk 8 min to the convention center, OR, get off BART at Milpitas, take the VTA orange line to Baypointe station, transfer to the blue line and ride it to the convention center.

DRIVING:

If you need to drive, the convention center parking structure has entrances on Almaden and Market streets.

GETTING INSIDE / OPEN HOURS

ALL ENTRY into the convention center building Fri-Sun is through the FRONT DOORS (see diagram). The connection between the hotels and the convention center will be exit only (similar to after hours in past Genesis years). EXCEPTION: Hotel connection WILL be open Thursday during badge pickup hours (6pm-10pm). The venue opens 8:30am Friday morning and is 24 hours through 9pm Sunday night. All entry into the event halls will be through the EXEC BALLROOM HALLWAY. All other doors are exit only.

ATTENDEE SECURITY / BAG POLICY

All security check happens at the front entrance. We have brand new security scanners this year to help move the line fast! They scan your bags as well as your person. If your bag is small enough, you will not need to have your bag searched. We will also have a separate 'no bag' line to help people without bags get through quickly. You do not need your badge to go through security, you will pick it up inside the venue. These same security rules will apply to the Civic Center as well.

BADGE PICKUP

Badge pickup is inside the convention center in a dedicated room (see diagram) EXCEPT on Sunday when it will all be at the Civic Center. Your badge will have stickers affixed to it depending on which days you bought a pass for. IF YOU LOSE YOUR BADGE OR STICKERS, YOU MUST PAY FULL PRICE FOR A REPLACEMENT!

We highly encourage you to pick up your badge Thursday night (6pm-10pm) if you can so that you can skip the line on Friday! Full badge pickup hours:

Fri 8:30am-10pm

Sat 8:30am-7pm

Sun 9am-7pm (CIVIC CENTER ONLY)

FOOD & BEV POLICY

Outside food & drink is not allowed through security, except for water. You may bring in empty water bottles as well although non-transparent bottles may be searched. Alcohol is prohibited and trying to bring in alcohol may get you banned from Genesis. We will have concessions open 12pm-8pm Friday and Saturday in the Convention Center, and 12pm-8pm Sunday in the Civic Center. The concessions area will be just outside Hall 2 in the 2nd floor concourse. You may bring food from the concessions into the event hall but you may not put food/drink on any tables that have electronic equipment on them.
